Background
Oil has always been one of the most desired commodities of the modern world. “Black Gold”, as it is called, has started territorial conflicts and wars in areas where it is readily available. One of the more influential conflicts over oil and land resources was the Gulf War, which lasted from August 1990 to March 1991. As tensions escalated due to a series of botched negotiations, the U.S got involved in attempt to stop the Iraqi forces from advancing. Operations Desert Shield and Storm commenced in order to destroy Iraqi troops and resources and also to prevent the invasion. This U.S. involvement changed lives in Iraq, Kuwait, and America. Soldiers who fought in the Gulf War found themselves in the middle of a resource war. Overall, the invasion of Kuwait and the resulting Gulf War left lasting imprints on all countries involved in the form of economic and infrastructural devastation.
